Occupy Chico

*This is copied and pasted from Facebook but I found it so inspiring, and so extremely important, that I felt it needed to be shared – and I hope to see many of you out there this Saturday, October 1st!!*

We have serious problems in America, this i'm sure we know. The richest 10% of America owns over 2/3 of the USA's net worth. Our public debt, as of today, has reached a mind numbing amount of $14,712,091,910,929.50 and lets not forget the unimaginable amount of pollution that mass production by our dear consumerist, capitalist state has produced! We are creating a life for future generations that is worse then death itself!

Our tuition fees are as high as they've ever been the cost of college tuition alone has increased annually by an average 3.2% at private schools and 6.6% at public colleges and universities for the past decade. And this doesn’t account for books, supplies, and room and board. For College students graduating with a BA, the average debt is $24,000. Why is it so expensive for us to go to a University? The less educated we become, the easier we are to control!

Since the 2008 financial crisis we have spent BILLIONS of dollars bailing out corrupt, cheating, and failing insurance companies, mortgage finance companies, and automotive companies. Regulation is practically non existent, and without it, greed has run rampant. That money could have started us on a strong, or stronger path towards sustainability, depending on if you believe our advances are an adequate reflection of our capabilities. We could easily have used that money for pursuit of sustainable energy sources, healthier and ethical food production, public transportation, health care for all regardless of wealth, cheaper tuition for all, housing, feeding, and clothing of the poor that have grown in number due to catastrophic increases in unemployment and foreclosure of homes.

Why do we believe the only way to prosper is to ride on the backs of multi-billion dollar companies? I'll give you an idea: The rich and powerful play a larger role then they should in our culture and government, where we learn to trust them, and turn a blind eye, as they rob us blind and feed us to the wolves, while we still believe OUR government will solve any problem as justly as possible. Well they do not!

Do not believe a word they say until you have informed yourself, and then decide: Is this the world I wish to live in? A life where you fear you do not have a future, a life of apathy, a life divided from each other and not united. They keep us so afraid and so timid that we can't help but smile as they feed us meager scraps from open palms. The corrupt, broken, and useless will only lead us into despair. We do not need them. We, the people, are enough

In solidarity with those protesting in New York, around the country and world let Chico's voice be heard. Please feel free to bring signs, and if you are musically inclined, instruments! This will be a NON Violent event!

ICONOCLASTIC

Iconoclastic is a semi-caustic look at life in today’s world from the heart of a sanguine woman trying to make heads or tails out of today’s society. It can be found right here at ICONOCLASTIC

As we grow up, we learn that even the one person that wasn’t supposed to ever let you down probably will. You will have your heart broken probably more than once and it’s harder every time. You’ll break hearts too, so remember how it felt when yours was broken. You’ll fight with your best friend. You’ll blame a new love for things an old one did. You’ll cry because time is passing too fast, and you’ll eventually lose someone you love. So take too many pictures, laugh too much, and love like you’ve never been hurt because every sixty seconds you spend upset is a minute of happiness you’ll never get back.

Don’t be afraid you’re life will end, be afraid it will never begin. ~unknown

Movie Review: Cupid

Netflix Synopsis:

1997 R 95 minutes

Jennifer (Ashley Laurence) develops a huge crush on her handsome co-worker Eric (Zach Galligan), but he turns out to be a murderous psycho who secretly ruins her life while trying to determine whether or not she's the perfect woman for him. Meanwhile, Dana (Mary Crosby), Eric's demented sister and former lover, tries to rekindle their incestuous relationship by driving a wedge between him and the new object of his affection.

Meagan’s Rating: 2 Stars

Very V.C. Andrews in plot, the most disappointing part of the movie was they did not even accurately portray the myth of Cupid and Psyche. Worth watching if you like Thrillers and are bored, otherwise, the plot was predictable, the character shallow, and although twisted, the ending was no surprise.

Movie Review: Ghost Game

Netflix Synopsis:

2004 NR 72 minutes

Killing time inside a mountain retreat, three vacationing couples dig up a dusty board game in the cellar with a mysteriously spooky title -- Ghost Game -- that's far too intriguing to pass up. Little do they know that opening up the tantalizing box will release the spirit of three murdered witches and put all of their lives in danger. Can these reluctant players unlock the game's ancient secrets before they fall victim to its power?

Meagan’s Rating: 2 Stars

This is the perfect horror movie if you're looking for a cheesy plot with a ton of laughs, D rate acting, and a budget that seems to have run out at the end, since there really isn't an "ending" to the film.

The only redeeming quality of this movie, is it will be added to my “make-out” movie list – you know, the list of movies you can make-out with someone too because you don’t give a shit if you miss them or not!!

Movie Review: The Possession of David O’Reilly

Netflix Synopsis:

2010 NR 85 minutes

After fighting with his unfaithful girlfriend, David O'Reilly (Giles Alderson) storms out of their apartment and seeks refuge with married friends Kate (Zoe Richards) and Alex (Nicholas Shaw). But as time passes, they discover that the haunted David is lying about exactly what troubles him. As unexplainable events overwhelm them, Kate and Alex realize that David is a magnet for supernatural forces, and they are forced to fight for their lives.

Meagan’s Rating: 3 Stars

For a B rated movie I LOVED IT! The plot is original, and a completely new concept in supernatural horror movies, it keeps you guessing until the end, and although there are some scenes that are left unexplained, it also leaves a lot open to the imagination - which is always fun when it comes to scary movies.
